Poultry Processing Crew

$18+/hr (depending on experience), on-the-job training, and increases based on performance.
Potential to continue through winter and become a year-round, long-term position.

  • Part-time: 8-24 hrs/wk.
  • Full-time: 30-40 hrs/wk, paid overtime and paid time off.

Processing days for 2023 are Sundays, Tuesdays, and most Fridays.

Example schedules (may change):

  • Full day schedule:
    - 7:30am-4pm (half hour break): Set up, processing, and clean up
  • Partial day schedules:
    - 1st shift: 7:30am-11:30am – Set up and processing
    - 2nd shift: 11am-3pm – Processing and clean up
    - 3rd shift: 2pm-6pm– Processing, clean up, facility cleaning

Experience appreciated, but not required.

Responsibilities include:

  • assisting in poultry processing, rinsing birds, preparing tanks and bins with ice and water
  • use of knives and sharp tools
  • clean up and sanitization of facility and equipment

Physical and sensory requirements:

  • ability to stand for several hours at a time
  • ability to lift up to 60 lbs
  • ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 10 lbs repeatedly
  • ability to work in wet/damp environments
  • ability to work in a cool environment (walk-in cooler)
  • ability to work in an environment with live animals and throughout the process of producing food from livestock

Reed Farm is a family-owned and operated, innovative, small-scale pastured (as season allows) poultry farm and on-farm state-inspected poultry processing facility in Western Massachusetts. We raise poultry for wholesale and provide the local farming community with custom poultry processing services. We are progressing towards a USDA Grant of Inspection, after which we will be the sole USDA poultry processing facility in MA.
